The Monument and Memorial Wall Commemorating the Red Army's Capture of Luoyuan City are located within the Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery of Luoyuan County.
The monument was built in 1984, with its name inscribed by Ye Fei, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. It is constructed from granite, with the main text on the southern side, a red flag-shaped top, and red flag and five-star designs on the upper parts of the east and west sides. The monument is about 25 meters high and rests on a granite stone base. The memorial wall is also primarily made of granite, standing 3 meters tall and stretching 10 meters in length. Its center features eight bluestone reliefs, each measuring 50 cm in width and 80 cm in height.
The memorial wall was established in 2009 and vividly recreates the historical events of August 14, 1934, when the Red Army liberated Luoyuan City, through written descriptions. The text is divided into nine sections: Preface, Pre-Battle Meeting, Reconnaissance of Enemy Situation, Battle at the West Gate, Breakthrough at the South Gate, Main Assault on the North Gate, Liberation of the Entire City, Intimidation of the Enemy Camp, and Far-Reaching Impact. It also includes a strategic map of the battle to capture Luoyuan City.
The main details of the battle are recorded as follows:
In early August 1934, the Red Army’s Northern Expeditionary Advance Team to Resist Japan, led by comrades such as Xun Huazhou, Le Shaohua, Su Yu, and Liu Ying, moved from Jiangxi into Fujian. On the 12th, the advance team arrived at the villages around Fengban, some 30–40 li from Luoyuan City, setting up their general headquarters in Baizhang Village. That evening, the corps met with local Party organization and guerrilla leaders in Luoyuan, who proposed an attack on Luoyuan City. Their request was approved, and a battle plan was formulated.
On the afternoon of August 13, a combat meeting chaired by Chief of Staff Su Yu was held in Baita Village, where it was decided to attack Luoyuan City that very night. By around 10:00 p.m., all units had reached their designated positions. The force attacking the West Gate, led by Captain Huang Jindi of the Red Guards, deployed near Ximen Palace, advancing toward the Large and Small West Gates. The unit assaulting the South Gate positioned itself to the east of Qipan Mountain. One company tasked with scaling the wall first waded through the creek on the left side of the gate, setting up bamboo ladders for climbing. Local guerrillas and Red Guards lay in ambush along the earthen embankment outside the East Gate. At 12:30 a.m., the West Gate came under fire first, quickly followed by the East Gate. Red Army troops at the South Gate immediately began scaling the wall, stormed the gate tower, eliminated an enemy platoon, opened the gate, and lit torches as they charged into the city. Seeing the fires at the South Gate, the troops at the East and West Gates intensified their assaults. The defenders at the West Gate collapsed under the Red Army’s combined inside and outside attacks. Following the South Gate, the East and West Gates were also successfully breached. In total, over 1,000 enemies were killed, and several hundred rifles, machine guns, and a large amount of ammunition and equipment were captured. The next day, more than 40 members of the Kuomintang, including the county magistrate, were captured—among them battalion, company, and platoon commanders of the security forces, the detention center warden, and the garrison commander. At the same time, over 40 imprisoned revolutionaries and innocent civilians were released.
