Monument to Lin Keyi’s Biography

The Monument to Lin Keyi’s Biography is located within the Luoyuan County Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery.

Lin Keyi was an early disseminator of Marxism in the Communist Party of China and the first party member from Luoyuan County. In 1949, the People’s Government of Fujian Province posthumously recognized him as a revolutionary martyr, and in 1983, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of China issued him an official Revolutionary Martyr Certificate.

Martyr Lin Keyi was born in 1893 in Beimen, the county seat of Luoyuan. In 1913, he was admitted to the Fujian Institute of Law and Politics. In 1916, he went to Japan to study at Waseda University and Meiji University, where he published numerous articles condemning Japan’s invasion of China and the actions of the Beiyang warlord government, and actively participated in activities organized by Chinese students in Japan. After graduating and returning to China in 1920, he taught at five universities in Beiping (now Beijing), including Chaoyang University, Minzhong University, and Culture University, where he actively engaged in research and dissemination of Marxism. In 1923, he was sent by the CPC organization to study at the Communist University of the Toilers of the East in the Soviet Union. That summer, he joined the Communist Youth League of China through the introduction of Peng Shuzhi, and later became a member of the Communist Party of China, making him one of the earliest Party members. In 1925, upon the recall by Li Dazhao, he returned to China and continued teaching at the five universities in Beiping, actively promoting... Between 1920 and 1925, he visited his hometown Luoyuan twice for over 20 days each time, igniting the spark of revolution there. In 1927, he was assigned to Wuchang, where under the leadership of Dong Biwu, he served as a professor at Wuchang Zhongshan University, vigorously spreading Marxism and engaging in revolutionary activities. In May, he took part in the Wuhan Defense Battle organized by Ye Ting’s troops. In July, he organized and mobilized students at Zhongshan University to rise up against the warlords’ massacre of the people of Wuhan. In the winter of that year, he was unfortunately arrested. On January 4, 1928, he died a heroic death in Wuchang at the young age of 35.

The Monument to Lin Keyi’s Biography was built in 1988. Made of granite, it stands 2 meters tall and includes a base. The inscription on the monument, carved in regular script, provides a brief biography of Martyr Lin Keyi.

Lin Keyi (1893–1928), originally named Ruiding, with the courtesy name Keyi, was a native of Beimen Street in the county seat of Luoyuan.

In the 5th year of the Republic of China (1916), after graduating from the Institute of Law and Politics, Lin traveled to Japan in pursuit of truth for saving the nation and its people. He studied successively at Waseda University and Meiji University. During his time in Japan, he read extensively from Marxist works and progressive publications, published articles such as “On the Japanese Disrupting Peace in Southeast Asia,” strongly criticized Japan’s invasion of China and the actions of the Beiyang warlord government, and participated in protest activities organized by Chinese students in Japan.
