The ancestral hall of the Eighteen Surnames at the site of the Battle of Dayi Township is located in Dayi Village, Qingkou Town, Minhou County. In the winter of 1935, after suppressing the notoriously evil local officer Han Jinhou in Makou and executing Yang Benliu, a local tyrant from Houkeng who oppressed the poor and assisted the wicked, the 2nd Detachment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Unit of the Red Army, which was active in the Changtai guerrilla base in Putian, subsequently captured and executed three Kuomintang spies at the ferry and Yinkeng, who were disguised as mountain produce buyers but were actually scouting intelligence on the Changtai base. The Kuomintang reactionaries then mobilized over 500 troops to launch a large-scale “encirclement and suppression” campaign against the Changtai guerrilla base. To support the Changtai guerrillas’ counter-encirclement efforts and divert enemy forces, the 1st Detachment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Unit, following instructions from the Minzhong Special Committee of the Communist Party of China, decided to attack the enemy stronghold in Dayi Township, Fuzhou–Xiamen Railway line.

The Site of the Battle of Dayi Township is a classic red tourism attraction.

The ancestral hall of the Eighteen Surnames at the site of the Battle of Dayi Township is located in Dayi Village, Qingkou Town, Minhou County.

In December of that year, upon learning that the local militia was stationed in the ancestral hall of the Eighteen Surnames in Dayi Township (now Dayi Village, Qingkou Town, Minhou County), the 1st Detachment of the Minzhong Guerrilla Unit quickly selected 10 elite advance team members to disguise themselves and infiltrate Dayi Township in order to scout the terrain, sentry positions, and defensive installations of the militia’s base — the ancestral hall of the Eighteen Surnames. Political Commissar Liu Tujun led over 60 soldiers from the Luohali guerrilla base in Fuqing. The unit split into three squads and marched swiftly to Dayi Township. Under the cover of darkness, the guerrillas surrounded the front and rear gates of the ancestral hall of the Eighteen Surnames, with elite forces guarding key intersections, tightly encircling the hall. At the signal, the advance team members immediately rushed through both the front and rear gates. The more than 80 militiamen, who were caught off guard in their sleep by the sudden appearance of these “divine troops,” panicked, found no escape, and had no choice but to surrender. Without firing a single shot, the guerrillas disarmed the militiamen, seized over 20 rifles, rescued sixty to seventy conscripts who had been detained by the enemy, and burned the conscription roster. As the unit withdrew, they also posted propaganda slogans throughout the streets and alleys of Dayi Township. The detachment then returned to the Luohan guerrilla base. This surprise raid not only intimidated the enemy but also significantly expanded the political influence of the guerrillas.
