The Site of the Old Master Cave (Laoyedong), the Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Shiba Chongxi, is located in Gucheng Village, Nantong Town, Minhou County, within the Shiba Chongxi area.
In May 1945, Japanese invaders withdrew from Fuzhou. Anticipating that the Kuomintang might launch a new round of “encirclement and suppression” campaigns against them, the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party made the decisive decision to relocate its headquarters from Nanyang in Changle to Tuer Mountain at the border between Yongtai and Minhou. In early June, as Secretary of the Provincial Committee Zeng Jingbing and other leaders, along with the final group of the Provincial Committee’s security squad, arrived at Tuer Mountain, the Provincial Committee successfully completed its strategic relocation. This move gave them the upper hand in the struggle against the enemy and created favorable conditions for further revolutionary activities. In July 1945, Secretary Zeng Jingbing led some cadres of the Provincial Committee to hide in the areas around Tuer Mountain and in Guchengli and Shiba Chongxi within Lin Sen County (in 1944, Minhou County was renamed Lin Sen County and reverted to its original name in 1950), where they carried out self-reliant production, persisted in the resistance, and continued the struggle. Although all party members, cadres, and soldiers lived in thatched huts built in the deep mountains and dense forests, and worked and held meetings in caves such as the Old Master Cave under extremely harsh conditions, they remained full of revolutionary optimism. During this period, the revolutionary masses in Gucheng Village also made active contributions. On one hand, they provided shelter and accommodation for provincial leaders such as Su Hua, enabling them to better carry out anti-Japanese salvation activities and underground armed struggles in the area. On the other hand, they frequently transported food to the Provincial Committee in Shiba Chongxi and assisted in delivering intelligence, letters, and propaganda materials. In November 1946, due to the needs of the revolutionary struggle, the Provincial Committee relocated to Gutian.
