Former Site of the First Congress of the Communist Youth League of Lianjiang County – Marshal’s Mansion

The former site of the First Congress of the Communist Youth League of Lianjiang County, the Marshal’s Mansion, is located at DongmenDou (west of the main gate of Lianjiang No.1 Middle School) in Fengcheng Town, Lianjiang County.

In December 1930, after the restoration of activities of Party and mass organizations in Lianjiang, the Communist Youth League saw significant development. League branches were established in Chengguan, Donghu, Toupu, and Jinglu, while league groups were set up in Danyang and Banbi.

On March 23, 1931, Guo Diren, who had served as Secretary of the Western Fujian Special Committee of the CPC, presided over the convening of the First Congress of the Communist Youth League of Lianjiang County. The meeting was secretly held in the wing room of the Tian Du Marshal’s Mansion at Dongyue Temple in Lianjiang County (next to the current Lianjiang No.1 Middle School), with 15 delegates in attendance including Liang Renqin, Wu Yidi, Xue Guangshou, Zheng Peiying, and Yang Hui. The agenda included four items: first, studying the League constitution issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the code of conduct for League members; second, a report titled “Current Situation and the Tasks of the Communist Youth League” delivered by Yang Erchang, Secretary of the County Party Committee; third, passing a resolution on “extensively carrying out propaganda, recruiting outstanding youths into the League, strengthening the League’s forces, and serving as a good assistant to the Party”; and fourth, electing the founding members of the Lianjiang County Committee of the Communist Youth League. Thanks to the meticulous organization by Guo Diren and Yang Erchang, the meeting was a success. The Lianjiang County Committee of the Communist Youth League was elected, with Liang Renqin as its first secretary, and Xue Guangshou, Zheng Peiying, and others as committee members. The congress also admitted a group of outstanding youths into the League and held a membership oath ceremony at Xinglong Temple. During the period of the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the Lianjiang County Committee of the Communist Youth League, in coordination with the Lianjiang (Central) County Committee of the CPC, played an important supporting role for the Party in mobilizing and organizing youths to engage in arduous guerrilla warfare and in the struggle to establish the Lianluo Soviet Area (in eastern Fujian). Many League members sacrificed their young lives in the creation and defense of the Lianluo Soviet Area.

The Marshal’s Mansion at DongmenDou covers a construction area of 570 square meters, with a traditional temple-style structure of four bays and three rooms, built with wood and earth. It remains in good condition today.

Fengcheng Town: Located in the county seat of Lianjiang, historically known as Wenma Tun, it is the political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub of Lianjiang County.
