Stone Pagoda of the Goddess Taimu

The Stone Pagoda of the Goddess Taimu is located in Yipianwa Temple on Yipianwa Mountain in Nanan Village, Zishan Town, Hui’an. It was built during the Tang Dynasty, and the inscribed stone tablet bears the nine characters “尧封太姥娘娘舍利塔” (“Relic Pagoda of Goddess Taimu Granted by Emperor Yao”), bestowed by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang.

In fact, not many locals actually worship the Goddess Taimu; the stories of Mount Taimu are more widely regarded as legend than as faith.

Zishan Town: Zishan Town is located in the northwestern part of Hui’an County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. It had a population of 35,038 people (as of the end of 2003) and governs 15 administrative villages. The town government is stationed in Wenghou. The area features the historical site of the Qiu Erniang Uprising and the ancient Yipianwa Temple, a natural cave temple built during the Ming Dynasty.

　It administers 15 administrative villages: Youyuan Village, Dingchitu Village, Hou’an Village, Nantian Village, Longshi Village, Zishan Village, Weishan Village, Guanxi Village, Banling Village, Guangshan Village, Baxia Village, Nanan Village, Meiren Village, Linkou Village, and Shimǎ Village.
