Hui’an Dazuo Village is one of Quanzhou’s Top Ten Charming Villages and also home to a national first-class central fishing harbor. The charm of Dazuo Village lies not only in the breathtaking coastal scenery of the Crescent Bay Beach, where sea and sky merge into one, but also in the unique and vibrant culture of the “Hui’an women,” which has become an important travel destination drawing large numbers of visitors to Dazuo Village for sightseeing and photography.

Crescent Bay, under the jurisdiction of Chongwu Town, Hui’an County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, is located on the northern shore of Chongwu Bay in Chongwu Town, facing Taiwan across the sea. As the saying goes, “The ancient town is surrounded by three sides of fish and dragon caves, while Dazuo guards the tiger and leopard pass with its twin peaks.” The charm of the sea, the beauty of the sand, the intrigue of the rocks, the antiquity of the town, and the unique local customs together form the rich and profound tourism appeal of Chongwu. The golden sands and azure waters of Chongwu’s Crescent Bay, with rolling waves and refreshing sea breezes, are utterly enchanting. Along the shore lies the exquisitely carved art treasury known as the “Fish and Dragon Caves,” a masterpiece of nature’s craftsmanship with its myriad shapes.

The Hui’an women represent a unique folk custom found along the seaside of the Huidong Peninsula in Hui’an County, Quanzhou, Fujian. They are renowned both at home and abroad for their distinctive attire and hardworking spirit. Their traditional clothing has also had a profound influence on neighboring towns such as Dongling, Dongqiao, and Wangchuan. According to locals, several hundred years ago, they migrated here from the Central Plains. Living by the sea, they wore floral headscarves and orange-yellow straw hats to protect against the wind—the scarves adorned with woven flowers and colorful small ornaments. They wore tight, short tops that revealed their navels, and extremely loose, wide-legged pants with belts tied below the navel.
