Location: Houyang Village, Shanxia Town, and Yutou Village, Dongqiao Town, Hui’an County

Introduction: Comprises Feifeng Temple and Yutou Mountain Earth God Temple. On September 14, 1930, the Second Regiment of the First Independent Division of the Red Army planned the "Hui’an Uprising" strategy at Feifeng Temple. On the morning of the 16th, after holding a flag-bestowing oath-taking ceremony in Houyang Dapu, the Second Regiment launched an attack on the Shanbing Village militia, capturing their fort in one fell swoop and marking the first battle of the Huidong Uprising. The Wuchen Township Soviet Government, the first township-level red political power in southern Fujian, was also established at the same time. Later, the Second Regiment moved to Yutou Mountain, using the Earth God Temple as a temporary field command post, and engaged in another fierce battle with the enemy. The Hui’an Uprising dealt a heavy blow to the Kuomintang reactionaries, warlords, landlords, and gentry, and had a positive impact on the development of the revolutionary situation in the seven counties of Quanzhou and the Putian–Xian area.

In 2009, the Former Site of the "Hui’an Uprising" was designated as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Houyang Village: [Meaning of Place Name] In early times, this area was a low-lying piece of land that became submerged during high tide, forming a watery expanse. Later, villagers surnamed Zhuang from Huyang in Yongchun relocated here and established the village at the far end of the depression, naming it Houyang after the terrain.

[Historical Evolution] During the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, Houyang Village belonged to Fengyangpu in the Twenty-Seventh District of Hui’an County. In the Qing Dynasty, it remained under Fengyangpu in the Twenty-Seventh District. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), it was under Chongwu District of Hui’an County. In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), it belonged to the Second Autonomous Region of Hui’an County (formed by the merger of Tuzhai and Chongwu districts, classified as a Class A region).
