Tomb of Li Kai

The Tomb of Li Kai is a cultural relic protection unit of Hui’an County.

The Tomb of Li Kai is located in Xixin Natural Village, Yanfeng Village, Tuzhai Town, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Li Kai, courtesy name Kexie and pseudonym Yizhai, was a native of Luocheng, Hui’an. He passed the imperial examination in the 11th year of the Jiajing reign (1532) during the Ming Dynasty and successively served as the magistrate of Panyu County in Guangdong, chief clerk of the Merit Evaluation Division under the Ministry of Personnel, middle-ranking official of the Carriage Department under the Ministry of War, and vice intendant of the Huguang Censorate, achieving remarkable political accomplishments. In the 37th year of the Jiajing reign (1558), he rallied local forces to repel Japanese pirates, safeguarding the county seat of Hui’an, for which he was honored by the imperial court. After his passing, he was enshrined in the Local Worthies’ Shrine. The tomb faces southeast and is situated northwest, having been robbed in earlier times but restored in 2009. It is shaped like the Chinese character “风” (wind), constructed with granite, and consists sequentially of an enclosing wall, a tomb stele, a sacrificial table, a burial terrace, and stone statues, covering an area of about 200 square meters. The stone horse and stone tiger in front of the tomb are original Ming Dynasty components.

The Tomb of Li Kai is the 11th batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Hui’an County.

Protected area: Centered on the tomb, extending 10 meters east, west, and north to the hillside, and south to the village road.

Yanfeng Village: Yanfeng Village is situated along both sides of the Hui-Chong Highway, boasting exceptionally rich natural resources. It lies close to Chongwu in the east, adjacent to the Huidong Industrial Zone in the north, and borders the county town in the west. It is three li from the location of the town government, surrounded by water on three sides, with fertile land and a pleasant climate. Infrastructure such as transportation, communication, water, and electricity is relatively well-developed. The total land area is 6.55 square kilometers, including 8,239 mu of forested land and 1,061 mu of arable land. The village comprises 14 villager groups, 8 natural villages, 1,112 households, with a total population of 4,732 people, and 56 Party members.
