Tomb of Zheng Chen

The Tomb of Zheng Chen is a cultural relic protection unit of Hui’an County.

The Tomb of Zheng Chen is located on the hill behind Shimai Natural Village, Dingshichi Village, Zishan Town, dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Zheng Chen (1475–1556), courtesy name Bixian, style name Shen’an, was a native of Shimai Village, Zishan Town. He was a tribute student in the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, and served as an instructor in Shengzhou County, Zhejiang, and as a teaching officer in Sanshui, Guangdong, earning the title “Scholarly Official.” After retiring, he spent his days proofreading books and historical texts, and passed away in the 35th year of the Jiajing era (1556). The tomb faces east and is built to resemble the shape of a “wind” character, covering an area of about 600 square meters. It is constructed from granite, with the burial chamber consisting of two compartments. The inner chambers feature brick arches, sealed externally with lime plaster. The tomb platform is divided into three levels, with stone lion pillars standing on both sides.

The Tomb of Zheng Chen is the 11th batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Hui’an County.

Protected area: West to the green space of Dingshichi Village Committee; east, south, and north extending 10 meters outward from the center of the tomb.

Zishan Town: Located in the northwest of Hui’an County, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province. It had a population of 35,038 by the end of 2003. The town administers 15 administrative villages, with the town government stationed in Wenghou. The area includes the site of the Qiu Erniang Uprising and the ancient temple known as Yipianwa Temple, a natural cave structure built during the Ming Dynasty.
