Marquis Houqing’s Mansion

Marquis Houqing’s Mansion is a cultural heritage site protected by Hui’an County.

Marquis Houqing’s Mansion is located in Houkeng Natural Village, Gengxin Village, Wangchuan Town, dating back to the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty.

The mansion consists of the New Hall and the Old Hall, covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. It was built by Chen Rui, who served as the Left Censor-in-Chief of the Guizhou Provincial Administration Commission during the Ming Dynasty. The Old Hall was constructed in the 14th year of the Hongzhi era (1501), featuring a single-courtyard, three-bay layout, with an area of 60 square meters. In the 18th year of the Hongzhi era (1505), the New Hall was expanded next to the Old Hall, featuring a three-courtyard, five-bay layout, with an area of 650 square meters. The entire structure is built with a combination of brick, stone, and wood, featuring a flush-gable roof with swallow-tail ridges. It retains fine architectural components from the Ming Dynasty, such as architraves, brackets, spandrels, and hanging cylinders, all exquisitely carved. During the Ming Dynasty, the mansion housed the “Longpan Community School”; in the Qing Dynasty, it hosted the “Liangpan Community School”; in the Republican era, it became the “Meishan Primary School.” After the liberation, Gengxin School was established here, nurturing countless students.

Marquis Houqing’s Mansion is the 11th batch of county-level cultural heritage protection sites in Hui’an County.

Protected Area: North to the alley, South to Huicheng Road, Southwest to the outer wall of Fanxian Mansion, Northwest to the edge of the basketball court, East to the outer wall of Marquis Houqing’s Mansion.

Gengxin Village: Gengxin Village is situated on both sides of National Highway 324 (Fuzhou–Xiamen section), located at the center of the Zoumapai Modern Agriculture Demonstration Area, nestled against mountains, roads, and the sea. The village is divided into 17 natural villages and 14 villager groups, with a total population of 4,685. The village currently has 1,986 mu of arable land, primarily used for agriculture, and 2,200 mu of mountainous land, mostly covered by Masson pine trees, along with abundant stone resources.
