Beidian Xu Family Residence

The Beidian Xu Family Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Hui’an County.

The Beidian Xu Family Residence is located in Beidian Natural Village, Xushantou Village, Dongling Town, dating back to the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty.

It was built by Xu Xianqian during the Jiaqing period (1796–1820). Facing northwest and situated southeast, the residence consists of three rows, three courtyards, five bays, and features double wing rooms. It includes a main hall, central wing, storage rooms, north and south wing rooms, and a rear section, covering a construction area of over 3,800 square meters. The architecture boasts exquisite stone and wood carvings, with detailed designs such as the Eight Treasures of the Study and motifs of figures, flowers, and birds on spandrels and brackets, all vivid and three-dimensional. Xu Xianchen (1765–1832), styled Zhenxiang and also known as Bin Yi, was widely referred to as "Xu the Millionaire." He was known for his philanthropy. During the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty, he donated funds to support the construction of Wenfeng Academy and was honored with the title of Prefectural Advisor.

The Beidian Xu Family Residence is the 11th batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Hui’an County.

Protected area: On the southeast and southwest sides, the boundary extends 2 meters outward from the rear eaves wall; on the northwest side, it reaches the alley; on the northeast side, it extends to the outer wall of the residential house.
