The "Eight Leaves Spreading Auspiciousness" Archway

The "Eight Leaves Spreading Auspiciousness" Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Hui’an County.

The "Eight Leaves Spreading Auspiciousness" Archway is located in Yuanshang Field, Yuanhu Natural Village, Songxi Village, Huangtang Town. It dates back to the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty.

The archway was built in the 17th year of the Jiaqing reign (1812) by the government to honor Wang Mengshan, a local centenarian. Facing southeast and backed by northwest, it is constructed from granite, featuring a single bay and two pillars. It stands 3 meters tall and is 4.1 meters wide. On both pillars and both sides, there are pairs of identical carved couplets: the upper inscription reads “Living past a hundred years, eight generations together,” and the lower one reads “Honored across five generations, blessings passed on through ancestors and descendants.” In the center of the archway’s lintel is the engraved inscription “Eight Leaves Spreading Auspiciousness,” with raised carvings of dragon heads along the edges. The front center features an engraved round bead, while the back center displays plant and floral patterns. This archway reflects the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting the elderly and honoring the virtuous.

The "Eight Leaves Spreading Auspiciousness" Archway is among the 11th batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Hui’an County.

Protected area: an extension of 7.5 meters in all four directions around the archway.
