Former Site of Xingmin School

The former site of Xingmin School is a cultural relic protection unit of Hui’an County.

The former site of Xingmin School is located within the campus of Xingmin Primary School in Wuliu Village, Wangchuan Town, dating from the Yuan Dynasty to the modern era.

Originally built during the Yuan Dynasty as the ancestral hall of the Liu family, it was later converted into a private school and then into Xishan School. The structure consists of two courtyards and three bays, comprising a recessed entrance gate, lower hall, courtyard, and main hall. It features a flush-gable roof and a post-and-lintel construction system, covering a total area of 236 square meters. It was renovated in 2016. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War period (1927–1937), Lan Feihe, a leader of the Hui’an County Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, taught here. To awaken the public, he renamed “Xishan School” to “Xingmin School.” Party leaders Cao Hai and Zeng Lu used this place as a base for underground revolutionary activities. In 1940, Li Gang, Secretary of the Minzhong Special Committee of the CCP, came to Hui’an and held an expanded meeting of the special branch here (i.e., —), where it was decided to gather weapons to establish an underground anti-Japanese armed force.

The former site of Xingmin School is the 11th batch of county-level cultural relic protection units in Hui’an County.

Protected area: West to the playground wall, south extending 2.5 meters outward from the stone-paved courtyard, east and north extending 2.5 meters outward from the walls.

Wuliu Village: The Wuliu Village Committee is located in the southeast of Wangchuan Town, bordering Nanshing Village to the north, Sheba Village of Tuzhai Town to the south, Donghu Village of Dongqiao Town to the east, and Kengnan Village to the west.

With a population of over 3,000, the people here are hardworking, kind, and hospitable. The area enjoys convenient transportation and is suitable for development.

Wuliu Village is a veteran revolutionary base area, where many locals participated in the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War.
