The Liu Clan Ancestral Hall at Dongmen

The Liu Clan Ancestral Hall at Dongmen is a cultural heritage site protected by Fu'an City.

The Liu Clan Ancestral Hall at Dongmen is located in Dongfeng Community, Chengnan Subdistrict, Fu'an City. It dates back to the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty (1723–1735) and is categorized as an ancient architectural structure.

The ancestral hall is located on Sanxing Road in Dongfeng Community, Chengnan. It was first built during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty (1488–1505), rebuilt in the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty (1723–1735) following the Ming layout, and renovated again in the early years of the Republic of China. Facing southeast and situated northwest, it is a brick-and-wood structured corridor-style courtyard building, measuring 45.5 meters in depth and 14.6 meters in width, covering a total area of 664.3 square meters. The hall follows the slope of the land, rising progressively from low to high. It features a post-and-lintel style timber frame, a double-sloped roof covered with grey tiles, with swallowtail upturned ridge ends at both sides. The saddle-shaped gables on both sides connect to the gatehouse gables in the front and to the hipped-roof corridor building in the rear. The ancestral hall has three courtyards, consisting of a stage, courtyard, corridor building, worship hall, courtyard, ancestral hall chamber, and sleeping quarters. The ancestral chamber has three bays, with the front corridor columns supported by three-tiered bracket sets that extend the eaves. The entire timber frame follows the Ming-style bracket construction. It showcases the elaborate and refined carvings characteristic of the Qing Dynasty. Inside the hall, there is a bluestone stele from the fourth year of the Guangxu reign (1878) of the Qing Dynasty, which records the history of the ancestral hall and the list of donors. This ancestral hall provides valuable evidence for the study of the Liu clan’s historical roots as well as the regional history of Fu'an and Ming–Qing architecture.

On February 20, 2013, the Fu'an Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units.
