When it comes to soaking in hot springs in central and southern Taiwan, most people think of resorts in Guguan, Dakeng, or Guanziling. However, in Checheng, Pingtung, there is a hot spring known as one of Taiwan’s “Four Great Springs,” alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling — the Sihchongxi Hot Spring. The area is home to many hot spring hotels and local cuisine restaurants, making it a great spot for a hot spring getaway in southern Taiwan. In addition, the Yuquan Temple, where you can enjoy a cheap yet high-quality soak, the Fude Temple, the largest Guanyin temple in Taiwan, and the scenic Shimen Ancient Battlefield are all popular attractions not to be missed when visiting Sihchongxi.

Sihchongxi Hot Spring – Transparent and Clear Beauty Spring
Sihchongxi Hot Spring is located within Checheng, with its source originating from the foothills of Shimu Mountain. Blessed by the surrounding mountainous geography, the spring water flows continuously. It is a sodium bicarbonate spring, rich in various minerals. After bathing, your skin becomes smooth and clean, earning it the nickname “Beauty Spring.” There are public hot spring baths in the area, with odorless, colorless, and crystal-clear waters.

Sihchongxi Hot Spring Park – The Green Belt of the Sihchongxi Hot Spring Area
Sihchongxi Hot Spring Park is a favorite strolling spot for locals. The entire area is long and narrow, divided into northern and southern sections. The northern part has gentle terrain, shaded by lush trees, featuring beautiful lotus ponds and children’s play facilities, making it ideal for hot spring visitors to take a leisurely walk and enjoy the scenery. The southern part is on higher ground, winding along the hillside, and includes pavilions decorated with indigenous totem designs for visitors to rest and take in the view.

Yuquan Temple – A Place to Soak Well for Less
Yuquan Temple, located in the Sihchongxi Hot Spring area, is a Buddhist temple and one of the rare temples in Taiwan with natural hot springs. To allow visitors both privacy and the joy of soaking, a few simple bathhouses have been set up in front of the temple, where you can enjoy piping hot spring water at an affordable price. It’s worth mentioning that Sihchongxi Hot Spring is natural mineral water that is safe to drink, so visitors can scoop up a handful and taste the spring water for themselves.

Checheng Fude Temple – A Grand Temple Dedicated to the God of Wealth
The largest Guanyin temple in Taiwan, Fude Temple boasts an imposing architectural style. Its incense offerings are widespread across the island, attracting pilgrims from all over. The temple grounds are surrounded by numerous vendors selling local specialties such as duck eggs, salted eggs, onions, and mung bean sprouts, creating a small market-like atmosphere. Whether on weekdays or holidays, the temple always draws large crowds. Fude Temple enjoys year-round incense devotion, and most visitors to Checheng come here to pray for peace and safety.
