When it comes to hot spring getaways in central and southern Taiwan, most people think of Guguan, Dakeng, or Guanziling. However, in Checheng, Pingtung, there’s a hot spring area known as “Sichongxi Hot Spring,” which—along with Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Guanziling—is counted among Taiwan’s “Four Great Hot Springs.” The area boasts many hot spring hotels and game meat restaurants, making it a great spot for soaking in southern Taiwan. In addition, Yiquan Temple offers affordable yet high-quality hot springs, Fude Temple is the largest Guanyin temple in Taiwan, and Shimen Ancient Battlefield offers picturesque rural scenery—all must-visit attractions when you’re in Sichongxi.

Sichongxi Hot Spring – Crystal-Clear and Beautiful "Beauty Spring"
Sichongxi Hot Spring is located within Checheng. Its source originates from the foothills of Shimu Mountain. Thanks to the surrounding mountainous terrain, the spring water flows abundantly. It is a sodium bicarbonate hot spring rich in various minerals. Bathing in it leaves your skin smooth and clean, hence earning the nickname “Beauty Spring.” There are public hot spring baths in the area, with odorless, colorless, and crystal-clear water.

Sichongxi Hot Spring Park – The Green Oasis of the Sichongxi Hot Spring Area
Sichongxi Hot Spring Park is a favorite strolling spot for locals. The entire area is long and narrow, divided into northern and southern sections. The northern part has gentle terrain, shaded by trees, featuring beautiful lotus ponds and children’s play facilities—perfect for hot spring visitors to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the scenery. The southern section is on higher ground, built along the sloping terrain, and includes pavilions decorated with indigenous totem designs for visitors to rest and take in the view.

Yiquan Temple – A Place to Soak in Quality Hot Springs Affordably
Yiquan Temple, located in the Sichongxi Hot Spring area, is a Buddhist temple and one of the rare temples in Taiwan with natural hot springs. To allow visitors both privacy and the joy of soaking, a few simple bathhouses have been set up in front of the temple. For an affordable price, you can enjoy steaming hot springs here. Interestingly, Sichongxi Hot Spring is natural mineral water that’s safe to drink, so visitors can even scoop up a handful and taste the spring water.

Checheng Fude Temple – A Grand and Majestic Temple of the Earth God
Fude Temple, the largest Guanyin temple in Taiwan, features magnificent architecture and enjoys widespread popularity across the island, attracting worshippers from all regions. The temple grounds are surrounded by numerous stalls selling local specialties such as duck eggs, salted eggs, onions, and mung bean sprouts, creating a small market-like atmosphere. Whether on weekdays or holidays, the temple always draws large crowds. Fude Temple remains bustling year-round, and most visitors to Checheng come here to pray for peace.
