Qiyun Well in Denshanli

Qiyun Well in Denshanli is a cultural relic protection unit of Fu’an City.

Qiyun Well in Denshanli is located in Yangshang Community, Yangtou Subdistrict, dating from the 43rd year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1644), and is categorized as an ancient structure.

It is situated 6 meters northeast of No. 60, Denshanli, Yangshang Community, Yangtou Subdistrict, Fu’an City. The original construction date is unknown; it was last renovated in the 43rd year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1644) and rebuilt in the 7th year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1867). The well platform is made of bluestone, with a hexagonal well curb and a well rim supported by six diamond-shaped bluestones. The well is 10.3 meters deep, with a mouth diameter of 0.71 meters, a curb height of 0.50 meters, and a thickness of 0.17 meters. The well opening is hexagonal, each side measuring 0.59 meters wide. The wellhead covers an area 2.2 meters wide, and the body of the well is built upward with flat stone slabs in a quadrilateral shape. The well curb is assembled from six joined stone blocks. On the eastern side of the curb, an inscription commemorates the well’s name and history: the upper part of the bluestone slab is inscribed with three large seal script characters reading “Xiyun Well” (Stream Cloud Well), while the lower part reads: “Originally renovated in the 43rd year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, during the month of Bingzi; extensively rebuilt in the 7th year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, during the month of □□.” It is a rare well with recorded renovation dates and holds significant reference value for studying local history.

On February 20, 2013, the People’s Government of Fu’an City designated it as a municipal-level cultural relic protection unit in the fifth batch of such listings.

Protected area: An extension of 5 meters outward from all sides of the structure.
