The Three Sages Temple at Lotus Pond

The Three Sages Temple at Lotus Pond is a cultural heritage site protected by Fu'an City.

The Three Sages Temple at Lotus Pond is located in Lianchi Community, Chengnan Subdistrict, Fu'an City. It was built in the fourth year of the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty (1824) and is classified as an ancient architectural structure.

It is situated opposite No. 10 Qisheng Road, Lianchi Community, Chengnan Subdistrict, Fu'an City. Originally built in the forty-seventh year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1619), the current structure is a reconstruction from the fourth year of the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty (1824). The temple honors three notable historical figures from Fu'an: Xue Lingzhi of the Tang Dynasty, Xie Ao and Zheng Huchen of the Song Dynasty. It faces south and is a brick-and-wood, courtyard-style building with a total width of 11.3 meters and depth of 17 meters, covering a floor area of 192.1 square meters. The layout includes a main gate, a central courtyard (with side corridors), and the main hall, all enclosed by hollow brick walls. The main hall is a two-story building with three bays in width and two in depth, featuring a post-and-lintel wooden frame and a double-sloped roof. A stone-paved pathway runs through the middle of the front courtyard, flanked by side corridors, with a porch at the front of the yard adjacent to the wall. The central section of the main gate wall is higher than the side sections and is topped with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof. Above the gate lintel is a grey-relief horizontal plaque inscribed with the characters “三贤祠” (Three Sages Temple). Originally, the temple housed statues of the three sages, which were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution. This structure serves as an important physical resource for studying Fu'an’s notable historical personalities. Moreover, the virtues of integrity, loyalty, bravery, and patriotism embodied by the three sages remain timeless, continuing to inspire and exert profound influence.

On February 20, 2013, the Fu'an Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units.
