Shiyanyan Pass

Shiyanyan Pass is a cultural heritage site protected by Fu’an City.

Shiyanyan Pass is located at Zhongxing Street Neighborhood Committee, Muyang Town, Fu’an City. Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, it is categorized as an ancient architectural structure.

It is situated at the ridge of Angtouge on Zhongxing Street Neighborhood Committee in Muyang Town. Commonly known as “Guochai Pass,” it was originally built during the Ming Dynasty and is the only remaining gate from the historical city wall of Muyang. Running in a north-south direction, it is built of stone with an arched top. The pass is 1.68 meters wide, 1.76 meters deep, 2.94 meters high, and 2.42 meters thick, covering a floor area of 2.95 square meters. The surrounding mountain ridges on both sides of the pass rise to a height of 4.95 meters. Muyang Village is nestled between mountains and water, with the turbulent waters of the Muyang Stream to the south and a city wall built along the northern mountain ridge to defend against invaders. It was constructed by the village to guard against bandits and Japanese pirates. Old city wall illustrations can be found in the genealogy of the Miao family from Muyang Village. The pass holds significant reference value for the study of the city’s fortification construction and historical culture.

On February 20, 2013, the People’s Government of Fu’an City designated it as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in the fifth batch of such listings.

Protected area: An extension of 15 meters beyond the outer walls of the structure.

Muyang Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Fu’an City. Established as Muyang Commune in 1958 and upgraded to a town in 1984. Located in the northwest of the city, it is 25 kilometers from the municipal government. Covering an area of 3 square kilometers with a population of 16,000, it is traversed by the Xiaopu section of the provincial highway. The town administers two village committees (Muyang and Sudi) and six neighborhood committees (Dongxing, Xicheng, Shimǎ, Dongxu, Baishou, and Sudi). Industries include foundries and toy factories.
