Former Site of the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government

The Former Site of the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangle County and a classic red tourism attraction.

The Former Site of the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government and the Filial Piety Archway are located at No. 30 Mofan Road, Xinhua Street, Xinhua Village, Guyong Town, Jiangle County.

On June 22, 1931, the 6th Division of the Red 3rd Army Corps launched a two-pronged attack on Jiangle from Taining, liberating the county seat. On June 28, the Jiangle County Revolutionary Committee was established. At the same time, the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government was founded, with its office located in the Filial Piety Archway (Wang Family Courtyard). Huang Dasong served as the chairman of the district Soviet government. The district Soviet government organized the masses to carry out campaigns against local tyrants and for land redistribution, actively expanding the Red Army and raising funds. As Jiangle was a strategic location connecting the Central Soviet Area and the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Soviet Area, serving as one of the important eastern gateways to the Central Soviet Area, the local Soviet governments in Jiangle were caught in a tug-of-war with the advance and retreat of the main forces of the Central Red Army. During the Third and Fourth Encirclement Campaigns against the Central Soviet Area, as the main Red Army forces withdrew, the work of the district and county Soviet governments in Jiangle entered a low ebb. However, following victories, these governments were quickly restored, ushering in a new high in the revolution. On December 30, 1933, with the entry of the Red 7th Army Corps, Jiangle was liberated for the third time. The Fujian-Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China dispatched Zheng Yisheng, head of the Provincial Finance Department, to lead a work team into Jiangle. Subsequently, the Jiangle County Soviet Government was established, and the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government was also restored. Under the leadership of the district Soviet government, emancipated workers and peasants enthusiastically joined the Red Army. Workers in the urban area formed the Red Guards, and through struggles such as striking and supervising employers, their wages increased by 20% or even seven to eight times compared to before the struggle. Activities such as land distribution, land inspection, military support, and fund-raising were carried out vigorously.

On February 9, 1934, Commander Zhu De traveled from Taining to Jiangle to guide the revolutionary struggle. He stayed in Jiangle County for three days. During this period, he personally visited the office of the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government to comfort the poor masses and gave each of them a small porcelain bowl of brown sugar.

The Former Site of the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government was originally the Filial Piety Archway of Xinhua Village, Guyong Town, built during the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty. It consists of a courtyard, memorial archway, main hall, central hall, rear hall, wing rooms, corridors, and a courtyard, covering an area of 1,716 square meters. The archway was erected in the 25th year of the Jiaqing reign (1820) by imperial decree to honor Ye, the second wife of Wang Zeguan, a scholar from Jiangle, for her virtue and filial piety.

The Filial Piety Archway of the Former Site of the Northeast Gate District Soviet Government was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangle County by the Jiangle County People's Government in June 1993.
