Wang Yujie, originally named Wang Dingqing, with the courtesy name Jingpu and alias Wu Mei, was born in 1901 in Zize Village, Bangtou Town. He studied at Beijing Xinhua University but, due to financial difficulties at home, transferred and graduated from the Beijing Higher Police School. In the autumn of 1924, after less than two months as a police officer in Jiangle County, he resigned in indignation over the darkness of reactionary rule and the suffering of the people, returning home to join the revolutionary tide against imperialism and feudalism. He successively served as Secretary of the CPC Xianyou East Township Branch, Organization Minister of the CPC Xianyou County Committee, Secretary of the CPC Putian County Committee, Secretary of the CPC Zhangzhou Municipal Committee, Secretary of the CPC Putian General Committee, Member of the CPC Pu Region Special Committee and Political Commissar of the Second Detachment of the Fujian Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, Secretary of the CPC Pu Region Special Committee, Standing Committee Member of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee and Head of the Labor Department and Military Work Secretary, Secretary of the CPC Central Fujian Special Committee, and Standing Committee Member of the Provisional Provincial Committee of Fujian Province. In 1934, when the Red Army marched north to resist Japan, Wang Yujie persisted in arduous independent guerrilla warfare in his hometown. He was arrested due to betrayal by a traitor. In 1937, he was martyred in Fuzhou at the age of 36. After liberation, Wang Yujie was posthumously recognized as a revolutionary martyr.
