LEGO Meets Landmark: Truck Crash into Presidential Office Building Caught in Display

Lego enthusiast Li Sihua was invited by a publisher to exhibit a LEGO recreation of the Presidential Office Building and Jingfu Gate, surrounded by a variety of colorful LEGO bricks and figures, including a Totoro bus. Even more strikingly, a truck appeared right in the center of the Presidential Office Building, echoing recent news of a truck driver crashing into the building—eliciting knowing smiles from onlookers.

Recently, a publishing company released a book featuring LEGO recreations of world-famous landmarks. To attract attention, they also displayed large-scale LEGO works themed around famous Taiwanese sites. The piece exhibited at Eslite Bookstore in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park’s 3rd floor was of the Presidential Office Building. Many visitors were initially drawn to the massive LEGO versions of the Presidential Office and Jingfu Gate, but upon closer inspection, they noticed the incorporation of the recent news event of a truck crashing into the building. This sparked discussions, with many commenting, “That’s quite something,” “So funny!” while taking photos with their phones and cameras.

This work was assembled by Li Sihua and another LEGO enthusiast, Dai Lego (Facebook username), using over 100,000 LEGO pieces over three months. Mr. Li Sihua is also the curator of the “Taiwan Railways 125th Anniversary: Classic Taiwanese LEGO Train Stations Exhibition,” and his creative efforts in combining LEGO with iconic Taiwanese landmarks have garnered much acclaim from LEGO fans.

Various brick toy brands have released numerous landmark-themed creations. For example, Japan’s nanoblock has produced many important Japanese landmarks, allowing Japan-loving travelers to build their favorite spots while playing.
