Former Site of the Red Army Garrison and the Soviet Government of Shuinan District

The Former Site of the Red Army Garrison and the Soviet Government of Shuinan District is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangle County.

The Former Site of the Red Army Garrison and the Soviet Government of Shuinan District, the Xie Ancestral Hall, is located at No. 124 Xinan Road, Shuinan Town, Jiangle County.

From 1931 to 1934, the Red Army was stationed in Shuinan three times and established the Soviet Government of Shuinan District, with Qiu Wen Zhou and Qiu Jixian serving successively as chairmen. The office was located at Xinan Academy. The district Soviet government led the masses in campaigns such as overthrowing local tyrants and redistributing land, as well as recruiting soldiers and raising funds. Many young people from Shuinan District joined the Red Army, including Xu Huagou, who served as the head of the Judiciary Department of the County Soviet Government and as a Red Army scout, Qiu Huaisi, who served as the clerk of the County Soviet Confiscation Committee, and even escorted two loads of silver dollars, one load of paper currency, and one load of opium seized from local tyrants to Jianning to hand over to Shao Shiping. On August 21, 1933, Peng Dehuai and Teng Daiyuan issued the "Military Order of the Eastern Army for the Annihilation of Enemies in Yangkou, Shunchang, and Jiangle" from the headquarters of the Red Army’s Eastern Army in Guihua, ordering the 57th Regiment of the 19th Division to act as the left-wing detachment and advance to Jiangle and Shuinan on the 24th. One battalion was to monitor and contain the enemy forces defending Jiangle city across the river while maintaining contact with the troops of the 61st Regiment on the north bank of the Jinxi River. From August 24 to 25, during the battle to besiege Jiangle city, some officers and soldiers of the 57th Regiment of the 19th Division were stationed at Xinan Academy in Shuinan.

The Former Site of the Red Army Garrison and the Soviet Government of Shuinan District was originally Xinan Academy and is now the Xie Ancestral Hall. It was first built in the ninth year of the Zhengde era of the Ming Dynasty (1515), faces south and sits north, covering an area of 220 square meters. It has one main hall that is five bays wide and three bays deep, featuring a single-eave hip-and-gable roof with a post-and-lintel wooden structure, with an open courtyard in front of the hall.

The Xie Ancestral Hall, the Former Site of the Red Army Garrison and the Soviet Government of Shuinan District, was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangle County by the People’s Government of Jiangle County in June 1993.

Shuinan Town: Shuinan Town is located in the central part of Jiangle County, covering a total area of 25.4 square kilometers. The town government is based in Xinan Village, situated on the south bank of the Jinxi River in the county town, one kilometer from the county center. The Fuyin Expressway, Provincial Highway Jintai Line, and Lingwen Line run through the area. In January 1998, Shuinan was established as a town.
