Mengbi Mountain

Mengbi Mountain stands abruptly 1.5 kilometers west of Pucheng County in Fujian Province, with a relative height of 20–30 meters. Originally named Gushan (Solitary Mountain), the Southern Dynasties' Xiao Zikai's "Record of Jian'an" states: "Gushan is surrounded by barriers; the land is flat, all of it ditches and fields, yet this mountain stands tall and isolated, hence its name."

"Gushan was later renamed Mengbi Mountain (Penholder Mountain) due to a story associated with the Southern Dynasties literary figure Wen Yan. In the second year of Yuanhui (474), Jiang Yan was demoted and became the magistrate of Pucheng (then known as Wuxing). He often roamed the county’s landscapes but had a special fondness for Gushan. Legend has it that one night, while staying overnight on the mountain, he dreamed of receiving a colorful flowered pen. Thereafter, his literary inspiration flowed abundantly, and his poems and essays were filled with fine phrases, giving rise to the celebrated tale of 'flowers blooming from the pen.' The mountain gained fame through the man, and Gushan was later renamed Mengbi Mountain.
