Jindou Mountain

Jindou Mountain is located in Shuibei Street Town, Pucheng County, and has been one of the famous scenic areas in northern Fujian since ancient times. Although Jindou Mountain is only 418 meters above sea level, it features bizarre peaks and rocks, serene vegetation, and overlooks the Nanpu River, where the mountain and water views complement each other beautifully.

Major attractions on Jindou Mountain include: One-Stroke Peak, Lion-Gazing Peak, Others’ Bed, Immortal’s Cave, River-Viewing Platform, Red Flower Rock, and the First to Fourth Grotto Heavens, among others. Zhu Bing, a renowned Neo-Confucian scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty, and Xu Xiake, the great geographer of the late Ming Dynasty, both visited the mountain and left behind poems and writings. The mountain once had a Taoist temple called Jindou Temple, which worshipped the Dark Emperor (Xuanwu), hence Jindou Mountain is also known as Little Wudang Mountain. Across from Jindou Temple lies a small town that was an important river port for merchants and travelers in the county; it was named Guanqian (literally “in front of the temple”) due to its proximity to Jindou Temple.

Shuibei Street Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Pucheng County. In 1958, it belonged to Guanqian Commune; in 1961, it was split off and renamed Shuibei Commune; in 1981, it was renamed Shuibei Street Commune due to a name conflict; in 1984, it became a township; and in 1993, it was upgraded to a town. Located in the southeastern part of the county, on the middle and upper reaches of the Nanpu River, it is 25 kilometers from the county seat. It covers an area of 328 square kilometers and has a population of 23,000. The town is accessible by road.
