Jinniu Mountain in Pucheng

Jindou Mountain is located within Shuibei Street Town in Pucheng County and has long been one of the renowned scenic areas in northern Fujian. Though the mountain is only 418 meters above sea level, it features uniquely shaped peaks and rocks, serene vegetation, and overlooks the Nanpu Stream—where the mountain and water views complement each other beautifully.

Major attractions on Jindou Mountain include: One-Stroke Peak, Lion-Facing Peak, Others’ Bed, Immortal’s Cave, River-Viewing Platform, Red Flower Stone, and the First to Fourth Grotto Heavens. The eminent Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Bing from the Southern Song Dynasty and the great late-Ming geographer Xu Xiake both visited the mountain out of admiration and left behind poetic writings. There used to be a Taoist temple on the mountain called Jindou Temple, which worshipped the Dark Emperor, hence Jindou Mountain is also known as Little Wudang Mountain. Across from Jindou Temple lies a small town that was once an important riverside hub for merchants and travelers in the county—it was named Guanqian (literally “in front of the temple”) after the temple.
