Introduction:

The location of the Gao Fang Water Conservancy Scenic Area—Kuangshan Mountain—has long been a retreat for literati and scholars seeking seclusion, boasting rich cultural heritage. Founders of the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Yi and Liu Bowen, once lived in seclusion here, leaving behind the ruins of the “Ku Zhai” (Bitter Studio). The “Kan Song An” (Pine-Watching Hermitage), built during the Song Dynasty, still attracts numerous worshippers, offering a glimpse into the past as if one could witness the literary works “Ku Zhai Ji” (Record of the Bitter Studio) by Song Lian and “Kuang Shan Kan Song An Ji” (Record of the Pine-Watching Hermitage at Kuangshan) by Liu Ji. The area features a well-composed and diverse landscape: undulating peaks, striking rocks, lush forests, intertwined vines, a warm and humid climate, abundant rainfall, and ample sunlight. It is rich in flora and fauna, with 1,234 species of vascular plants from 615 genera and 175 families, including nationally protected species such as the southern yew and Torreya grandis, as well as various wild ornamental plants. The scenic area is also home to nationally protected animals such as the pangolin. The Dashixi Stream meanders like a coiling dragon, while Shuangmenxi and Longjingxi Streams resemble the dragon’s horns, and the rugged cliffs and passes are like its claws. Boating upstream, you can hear birds chirping in the valley and see waterfalls cascading down. The steep and rugged rocks form a myriad of striking shapes. The ancient paths are serene and desolate; revolutionary sites evoke solemn inspiration; and the parabolic dam is quite spectacular.

Gaofang Village: Gaofang Village, with its village committee located in Gaoban. The name is derived from one character each of the two natural villages Gaoban and Houfang. It is 21 kilometers from the town center. The village borders Qianyang to the east and south, Shanshu to the west, and Shuangtong to the north. It administers 12 natural villages: Gaoban, Houfang, Waputou, Shangji, Xiaji, BenDoujiao, WaibenDoujiao, Shanjia, ZhulinKeng, Waizhui, Caicuo, and Houmenshan, with 9 villager groups.
