Location: Dangxi Village, Guancuo Township, Pucheng County

This site is situated in Dangxi Village, Guancuo Township, Pucheng County. It is 80 meters long from east to west and approximately 40 meters wide from north to south, with a total area of over 3,200 square meters. In the autumn of 1989 and 1990, the Fujian Provincial Archaeological Team carried out rescue excavations at the site twice. From October to December 1989, excavation squares were laid out around the main pit, resulting in 17 5x5-meter test pits with a total exposed area of 425 square meters. Thirteen Neolithic tombs and four ash pits were discovered. From October to November 1990, based on the first excavation, the squares were expanded outward to determine the distribution range of the tomb area, with 19 additional 5x5-meter test pits excavated, covering an area of 457 square meters. Six Neolithic tombs and four ash pits were found. The combined excavation area of the two digs was 900 square meters, unearthing a total of 19 Neolithic tombs, 8 ash pits, and more than 300 cultural relics including stone tools, jade artifacts, and pottery, as well as a large quantity of pottery fragments.

Through two scientific archaeological excavations, the Niubishan Site has revealed cultural remains such as pottery gui vessels and duck-bill leg ding tripods, which differ significantly from those found downstream of the Min River and possess distinctive characteristics of their own. The academic community has named the culture represented by this site as the “Niubishan Culture.” This culture holds significant research value in aspects such as prehistoric regional cultural exchange, the relationship between prehistoric cultures in Fujian and Taiwan, the developmental sequence of prehistoric cultures, settlement archaeology studies, and the transformation of prehistoric economic forms.

In 2009, the Niubishan Site was designated as part of the seventh batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Dangxi Village: Dangxi Village is located in the northeastern part of Pucheng County, 37 kilometers from the county seat. It is a village with a revolutionary history and borders Longquan City in Zhejiang Province. It lies 5 kilometers from the township government. The village has a total of 3,970 mu of arable land and 35,970 mu of forested land. There are 550 households, with a population of 2,177 people, divided into 24 villager groups across 3 natural villages. The village has six cadres and 60 party members. Dangxi Village actively promotes the “Six Requirements” mass work method and the “168” working mechanism, and manages “three assets” comprehensively.
