The former site of the CPC Tanwu District Committee and the District Soviet Government is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The former site of the CPC Tanwu District Committee and the District Soviet Government is located in Tanwu Natural Village, Xiyuan Village, Zhongxin Town, Pucheng County, dating back to 1932–1934.

Description: Originally the Huaguang Temple, built during the Qing Dynasty with a timber-and-earth structure, covering an area of 154 square meters. In July 1932, Ye Quanxing, commander of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, led the establishment of the Soviet area in the Tanwu region and founded the First Northern Pucheng District (i.e., the Tanwu District Soviet) in November in Tanwu Village. In December 1934, over 1,000 troops of the Kuomintang army launched an “encirclement and suppression” campaign against the Tanwu Soviet Area. Part of the Tanwu District guerrilla force retreated to Maoyang and Maji areas in Zhongxin Town, while others continued local resistance. The former site of the Judiciary Department of the Tanwu District Soviet Government is a wooden residential building.

In 2018, the former site of the CPC Tanwu District Committee and the District Soviet Government was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: Former Site of the CPC Tanwu District Committee and the District Soviet Government — 20 meters outward from each surrounding wall. Former Site of the Judiciary Department of the Tanwu District Soviet Government — east to the residence of Hu Maosheng, south to the road in front of the open space, west to the residence of Hu Xiwen, north 20 meters outward. Red Army Cemetery — 20 meters outward from each side of the cemetery.

Xiyuan Village: Xiyuan Village once housed the Xiyuan Township. It is located in the southern part of the town, bordering Zhongxin, Hutoushan, and Jinfeng villages, as well as Yanbu and Lilin villages of Guancuo Township. At an elevation of 340 meters, it covers an area of 14.58 square kilometers, comprising 16 villager groups, 13 natural villages, 502 households, and 1,771 people. The arable land area is 2,525.9 mu, with 916 rural laborers. In 2012, the total agricultural output value was 6.68 million yuan. Xiyuan Village is also a veteran revolutionary base village, with seven such base villages within its boundaries.
