Xiuli Village: Originally named Shouling (Beast Ridge), the village got its name because the mountains connecting it to Tangling resembled fierce beasts such as a roaring lion, a dancing elephant, a red snake, and a turtle. Later, due to the villagers' aversion to these beastly associations and the area's beautiful scenery, it was renamed Xiuling (Beautiful Ridge), and eventually further adapted phonetically to Xiuli (Elegant Village).

Xiuli is a historic mountain village. During the Song Dynasty, the region now encompassing Panting and Jiumu was known as Anleli, with Xiuli being part of its 6th Subdistrict. During the Chunhua era (990–994) of the Song Dynasty, a man named Wu Daiwen arrived here, fell in love with its picturesque landscapes, and relocated his family to settle permanently.
