The Shangtong Ancient Residences are located in Shangtong Village, Zhongxin Town, Pucheng County, and date back to the Qing Dynasty.

Zhongxin Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Pucheng County. It was established as Zhongxin Township in 1942, reorganized as Zhongxin Commune in 1958, reverted to township in 1984, and upgraded to a town in 1993. Located in the northwest of the county, on the upper reaches of the Zhexi River, it is 23 kilometers from the county seat. Covering an area of 430 square kilometers with a population of 27,000, it is accessible by road to National Highway 105. The town administers 23 village committees: Zhongxin, Paizha, Shangtong, Hutoushan, Yucang, Haixi, Jinfeng, Xiyuan, Waiyang, Yuanli, Youcun, Gaoxi, Zhaimen, Yantang, Xiazhuang, Jiyang, Maoyang, Kengwei, Banyuan, Siqian, Cunqiao, Jinzhang, and Taoyuan.
