Sanyang Peak is known as the highest peak in Wuyi. From downtown Wuyishan City or Xingcun Town, one can admire its majestic presence: three emerald-crowned crimson cliffs rising layer upon layer, proudly facing east. Sanyang can be divided into Dayang, Er’yang, and Xiaoyang, all accessible from Huivuan or Xiaotaoyuan. Halfway up Xiaoyang, there is a rock cave — Bixiao Cave — about four or five zhang deep and two or three zhang high. Inside the cave is engraved the five characters “Highest Point of Wuyi.” Beside the cave is a well, said to have been used by the Song Dynasty Taoist Bai Yuchan for alchemy. Other relics include Zhibai An and Yangyun An. From the mountaintop, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Wuyi.

Sanyang Peak boasts numerous scenic spots. Halfway up Xiaoyang Peak lies a rock cave, approximately four or five zhang deep and two or three zhang high, named “Bixiao Cave.” On the rock wall above the cave is inscribed the five characters “Highest Point of Wuyi,” written by Lin Pei during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era.

Beside the cave is a well, traditionally believed to be the alchemy well of Bai Yuchan from the Song Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty, Zhou Shifang of Kuaiji once built a hut here. On the waist of Dayang Peak, there is a flat, square-shaped massive rock called Qipan Stone, where it is said that immortals once played chess.

Sanyang Peak is surrounded by ancient trees with dense foliage. Even in the height of summer, when one arrives drenched in sweat, just moments here will dispel all heat. Not far from here is Sanyin Platform, which hosts the Jicui Lou An, Zhibai An, and Yangyun An, while at the base of the platform lies Lu’an, now all in ruins. There is also a large stone inscription that reads “Highest Point of Wuyi.” The journey to Sanyang Peak features captivating scenery and secluded paths. The scenic area management committee is organizing efforts to restore the hiking trails and build additional rest shelters for visitors.
