A Spectacular 360-Degree Rotating Audience Stage in the 1 Billion Yuan Impression of Dahongpao at Wuyi Mountain

Set against the backdrop of the UNESCO dual heritage site Wuyi Mountain and built with an investment of approximately 200 million RMB (about 1 billion NTD),Impression of Dahongpaois the fifth production by renowned Chinese directors Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge, and Fan Yue, following Impression of Liu Sanjie, Impression of Lijiang, Impression of West Lake, and Impression of Hainan Island. It showcases the nighttime beauty of Wuyi Mountain and solves the problem of tourists having nothing to do after daytime mountain climbing and rafting on the Nine Bend Stream.

In addition to featuring the world’s first 360-degree rotating audience stage — which eliminates the need for scene changes — the gentle rotation of the entire seating area is also a novelty, offering an unobstructed viewing experience. The screen is integrated into the landscape, making it the world’s first mountains-and-waters cinematic theater. The entire performance is woven together with tea as its central theme, presenting five acts: Sacred Tang Court Songs, Bamboo Forest Dance, Mythical Legends, Tea-panning Performance, and Raft Drifting. It seamlessly blends heaven, earth, mountains, tea, and people into the storyline.

The venue accommodates nearly 2,000 people, nearly all seated, and the theme song “Red,” specially performed by Harlem Yu for Impression of Dahongpao, helps audiences easily immerse themselves in the story. Starting with the grand opening in the so-called world’s largest teahouse, where a tea shop owner and his assistants lead the audience into different stories, the narrative unveils the love story between King Peak and Jade Maiden Peak. The sudden appearance and quick vanishing of the peaks are the most awe-inspiring sights, prompting continuous applause from the audience. Also drawing attention is the bamboo forest dance segment, where a man in white is lifted onto a bamboo pole as high as a building and spins with remarkable arm strength, bringing another surge of excitement.

With the backdrop of sky, earth, mountains, and water, Wuyi Mountain’s “tea culture” is brought to life overnight. The love story of King Peak and Jade Maiden Peak, traditional Chinese music, and Harlem Yu’s deeply emotional singing of “Red” fill the misty night. Tonight, nearly 2,000 audience members let go of worldly worries for a brief 70 minutes, quietly enjoying the romance and serenity of the mountains.

Over 500 actors take turns performing on stage, with continuous singing and dancing, along with ever-changing colorful lights — sometimes joyful and light, other times powerful and moving. Accompanied by narrations softly uttering the word “let go,” the show offers busy urbanites a rare moment of “peace” in Wuyi Mountain. They get to enjoy the tranquility of tea, the warmth and embrace of the mountains, and have their body, mind, and soul purified through performances, landscapes, and the aroma of tea. Near the end, maids in ancient costumes walk among the audience, offering cups of tea to lucky spectators seated nearby, adding an interactive touch.
