The great Neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Xi moved to northern Fujian at the age of 15 and lived in the Chong’an area (now Wuyishan City). Having spent over forty years near Mount Wuyi, the area is regarded as the birthplace of Zhu Xi’s philosophy. He once wrote “Nine-Bend Boat Song,” which provides a vivid depiction of the scenery along the Nine-Bend River of Mount Wuyi;

Zhu Xi’s former residence, Ziyang Tower, is located in Fuxian Village, Wufu Town. It features a Half-Mu Square Pond, an ancient Lingquan Well, and the Zhu Zi Camphor Tree (said to have been planted by Zhu Xi himself). Nearby are historical sites such as Zhu Zi Lane, Xingxian Academy, the Ancient Xingxian Street, and Zhu Zi’s Community Granary (a granary established by Zhu Xi for famine relief and disaster aid).

Zhu Xi, courtesy name Yuanhui, later changed to Zhonghui, also known by his pseudonym Huian and referred to as Ziyang, was born in Wuyuan, Jiangxi, but in Youxi, Fujian. His father, Zhu Song, served as the magistrate of Youxi County during the fifth year of the Xuanhe era (1123) of the Song Dynasty and, after completing his term, settled in a guesthouse owned by Zheng Andao in Shuinan, the county. Wufu Town: Located in the northeastern part of Wuyishan City, Wufu Town covers an area of 175.75 square kilometers.
