Lingyan Cave

Introduction:

One of the famous Seventy-Two Caves of Mount Wuyi. Located on the far right side of Lingyan. The One-Line Sky (Yixiantian) runs horizontally through the back wall of the cave. The cave is 7 meters high, with a length and width of several tens of meters each. Its ceiling does not connect with the rock crevice (i.e., the One-Line Sky), nor does its left wall connect with Fengtong (Wind Passage). It forms an independent chamber, unique in character. Legend has it that the Immortal Ge once exorcised demons inside the cave and established Lingyan Nunnery in front of the cave, but it has long since collapsed. Later generations engraved the three characters “Shou Huo Yao Yan” (roughly translated as “First to Subdue the Demon Cave”) in the neighboring Wind Cave. At one time, spring water seeped through cracks in the rocks of Lingyan Cave, clear and jade-green in color, resembling sacred water—people called it the Holy Water Well. Today, the water source no longer exists.
