China Wuyi Mountain Tea Expo Park

China Wuyi Mountain Tea Expo Park is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

In commemoration of the great achievements of their ancestors and to deepen visitors' understanding of Wuyi tea, the city of Wuyishan specially built the China Wuyi Mountain Tea Expo Park on the picturesque banks of the Nine Bend River at the southern end of the resort area. This park, seamlessly integrated into the landscape, is a grand exposition of tea culture, aiming to offer visitors a three-dimensional scroll and a vivid epic.

The Tea Expo Park is generally divided into five sections: the Landscape Garden, the Underground Plaza, the Live Scenic Performance Viewing Area, the Tea Museum, and the Tourist Service Center. Covering an area of approximately 78,000 square meters, the park showcases the long history, legendary tales, and exquisite craftsmanship of Wuyi tea. With the design theme of “Condensing the History of Wuyi Tea and Displaying the Charm of Rock Aroma,” it offers visitors a profound cultural experience and the alluring fragrance of rock essence through historical records by famous figures, reenactments of historical scenes, and interactive tea art performances.

The Tea Soul Plaza is leaf-shaped, with its edges inlaid with dark red granite, symbolizing the “three reds and seven greens” of Da Hong Pao. At the front of the plaza, a screen shaped like a tea tree features the “Ode to Da Hong Pao” written by the renowned ci-fu writer Xue Chuan. At the back stands the “Three Saints of Wuyi”—Shennong, Pengzu, and the God of Wuyi. On both sides stand fourteen historical figures who have deep connections with Wuyi tea: Lu Yu, Sun Qiao, and Xu Yin from the Tang Dynasty; Fan Zhongyan, Su Shi, Zhu Xi, and Bai Yuchan from the Song Dynasty; Gao Xing and Du Ben from the Yuan Dynasty; Chen Duo and Shi Chaquan from the Ming Dynasty; Dong Tiangong from the Qing Dynasty; and Lian Heng and Wu Juenong from modern times. In the center of the plaza, the winding “Nine Bend River” flows quietly like a dragon. Scattered along the riverbank are stones representing the Thirty-Six Peaks of Wuyi Mountain. The ground on both sides is inscribed with the couplet “A Millennium of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism; Eternal Mountains, Rivers, and Tea,” as well as Zhu Xi’s Nine Bend Boat Songs. All of this embodies the profound artistic concept of “A Pot of Tea Capturing the Essence of Wuyi’s Mountains and Rivers.”

The Rock Tea History Park is divided into nine themed zones: “Ancient Memories,” “Relics of the Han and Jin Dynasties,” “Legends of the Glorious Tang Dynasty,” “Splendors of the Two Song Dynasties,” “The Imperial Tea Garden of the Yuan Dynasty,” “Loose Tea of the Ming Dynasty,” “Oolong Tea of the Qing Dynasty,” “Tea Industry Research Base of the Republican Era,” and “The Modern Renaissance of Wuyi Tea.” It showcases the long history, rich culture, and exquisite craftsmanship of Wuyi tea through selected historical figures, events, documents, poetry, and artistic techniques such as condensation, close-ups, and live displays.

From the “Ancient Memories” to the “Relics of the Han and Jin Dynasties,” the park embodies the ancient history of the tea region. Legends such as “Late Sweet Marquis” and “Wax Surface Tea” recount the splendors of the Tang Dynasty. Tea competitions and tea artistry display the elegance of the Song Dynasty. The “Imperial Tea Garden” and the “Mountain-Calling Platform” highlight the highlights of the Yuan and Ming periods. Oolong tea rose to prominence in the Qing Dynasty, while Da Hong Pao shines in modern times. The history of rock tea encapsulates the essence of Wuyi tea culture and vibrates with the charm of rock aroma.

The Da Hong Pao Plaza is a roughly 5,000-square-meter space that can accommodate 3,000 people, with a podium that seats 180. The central section of the plaza features a 45-meter-long flowing stone carving inscribed with the “Timeline of Tea History,” clearly illustrating the development of Chinese tea culture. The plaza floor is inlaid with the three characters “Da Hong Pao” in red granite, visible even from an airplane. The four characters “Rock Aroma and Fragrant Blossom” highlight the key characteristics of Wuyi tea, represented by Da Hong Pao.

Wuyi tea gained increasing fame during the Han and Tang Dynasties when it quietly entered the imperial court, and its reputation grew further in the Song Dynasty as a key component of Jian Tea offered as tribute. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was officially designated as tribute tea. Officials overseeing the production of tribute tea built the Royal Imperial Tea Garden on the southern bank of the fourth bend of the Nine Bend River, dedicated to crafting tribute tea. They also constructed the “Tongxian Well” and the “Mountain-Calling Platform,” contributing to the extension of tea culture.

Scenic Area Shuttle Buses:

Within the Wuyishan Scenic Area, there are four tourist bus routes that pass through select scenic spots. Routes 1 and 2 are eco-friendly shuttle buses, running between the Chishi Main Entrance and Shangpu Secondary Entrance, shuttling to and from the Xincun Secondary Entrance. Routes 3 and 4 are branch lines operated by minibuses, traveling one-way from the Chishi Main Entrance to the Xincun Secondary Entrance and the New Parking Lot.

Drive within the scenic area along designated routes.

On Foot:

Walking within the scenic area is also possible, especially near the Dazhufeng Road area.
