Former Site of Wuyishan Lenin Park

Lenin Park, located in the city center of Wuyishan, covers an area of 35 acres and was first built in 1933. In April 1931 and September 1933, Fang Zhimin and others led the Red Tenth Army on two military campaigns into Northern Fujian. The Red Tenth Army achieved remarkable military successes during these two incursions into Fujian, expanding and consolidating the Northern Fujian Soviet Area, and also brought experiences such as learning from Russia to establish a Soviet system and following the development path of Jinggangshan from the Eastern Jiangxi Soviet Area.

In February 1933, the Soviet government and Party organs of the Northern Fujian Sub-district were moved from Da’an to the county seat. The Northern Fujian Sub-district Committee, with Huang Dao as its secretary, placed importance on cultural development and decided to build Lenin Park on the former site of the City God Temple. After a short period of effort, the park was completed. Since then, major events of the Soviet Area were held in the park, and it also provided a venue for the military training, rest, and cultural activities of the people and army of the Soviet Area.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the local Party organizations and government restored the name of Lenin Park. They also built within the park the “Northern Fujian Revolutionary Martyrs Monument,” the “Northern Fujian Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Pavilion,” and the Northern Fujian Revolutionary History Memorial Hall. The ashes of Su Yu, Marshal of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, are also interred in the park. Today, Lenin Park has become an important base for revolutionary tradition education and patriotic education, as well as a key attraction for both domestic and international tourists.
