Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China in Wuyishan
The Former Site of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China in Wuyishan is a classic red tourism destination.
The Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China was officially established in June 1938 in Cuntou Village, Kengkou, Wuyishan City. Cuntou Village, located 34 kilometers from the city center, borders Shangrao County of Jiangxi Province to the north via Kezhu Pass and neighbors Yanshan County of Jiangxi Province to the northwest through Wenling Pass. Historically, it was a strategic military location.
In February 1938, the guerrilla forces of the Red Army in northern Fujian were dispatched to the southern Anhui front to fight against the Japanese. The former Fujian–Jiangxi Provincial Committee was ordered to be reorganized as the Fujian–Zhejiang–Jiangxi Special Committee, which continued its struggle locally. In June, the Southeast Bureau of the CPC Central Committee instructed that the Fujian–Zhejiang–Jiangxi Special Committee, along with the Fujian–Eastern Special Committee and the party organizations in central Fujian, be merged to form the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. In August, the Fujian Provincial Committee was officially established in Cuntou Village, with Zeng Jingbing as secretary, Fan Shiping as head of the Organization Department, Wang Zhu as head of the Propaganda Department, Zuo Fengmei as head of the Military Department, Wang Linxing as head of the Mass Work Department, Yu Yalu as head of the Labor Department, and Wang Wenbo as head of the Youth Department. As a result, this area became the core leadership hub of Fujian’s anti-Japanese movement and was hailed as the “Red Capital.”
Major activities carried out by the Fujian Provincial Committee in Cuntou Village included: In July 1939, the committee held its first Provincial Party Congress on Lücunyang Mountain in Cuntou. Chen Pixian was sent by the Southeast Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to attend and provide guidance. The congress reviewed one and a half years of work, proposed the “Tasks for the Future,” elected a new provincial committee, and selected six delegates—Fan Shiping, Cheng Xu, Fang Yan, Nie Xianshu, and Mao Biao—to attend the Party’s 7th National Congress. This marked the first time that Fujian’s Party organization had its own representatives at the national Party congress. Between 1939 and 1941, to promote education in Marxism-Leninism and improve the ideological and theoretical level of cadres and soldiers, the Lücunyang Mountain site in Cuntou Village…
hosted the establishment of the Wuyi Cadre School, with Secretary Zeng Jingbing personally serving as its president. The Wuyi Cadre School held four sessions, training over 300 participants, including intellectuals from urban areas and worker-peasant cadres from rural backgrounds. Many of these individuals later became key figures in the Party’s efforts during both the War of Resistance Against Japan and the Liberation War.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Party and government constructed the “Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China” Memorial Pavilion in Cuntou Village. They also established an exhibition room dedicated to the “History of Revolutionary Struggle in Kengkou.”
