Qiyun Peak

Qiyun Peak is one of the ninety-nine famous rock formations in Mount Wuyi. The peak is near Xingcun and located southwest of the starting point of the Nine-Bend Stream. Towering high into the sky, it earned its name from this majestic appearance. It also resembles a fiercely burning torch, hence its common name “Flame Mountain” (which is different from Flame Peak in the scenic area north of the mountain). In ancient times, there was a Qiyun Pavilion built at the peak, and halfway up the peak were the Qiyun Hermitage and the Sage’s Hermitage. On quiet nights, when looking down from the summit at the villages at the foot of the peak, the lights of each household reflect beautifully against the stars, creating a sight known as “heavenly lanterns.” This is also the origin of the name “Xingcun” (Star Village).
