Huanggang Mountain Grand Canyon

Huanggang Mountain is located on the Fujian–Jiangxi border and is the main peak of the Wuyi Mountains, with an elevation of 2,158 meters — higher than Mount Tai, making it the highest peak in East China. The mountain is named Huanggang (Yellow Ridge) because its summit is covered with daylilies (commonly known as daylily flowers), which bloom golden in August and September, dyeing the ridges in vibrant color.

The concept of the Huanggang Mountain Grand Canyon scenic area is “Fairyland,” a paradise untouched by the mortal world. Along the trail, you’ll find natural attractions such as the Highlander’s Stream and Immortal’s Gallery, Immortal’s Drinking Pavilion, Red Army Granary, Taihe Pool, Xileng Gorge, Minghe Pavilion, Canglang Washing the Tassel, Longevity Pool, Bear Tracks Wonder, Beauty Pool, Seven-Colored Pool, Jade Pool, Heavenly Scripture, Tree Embracing Rock, Dung Beetle Gazing at the Moon, Immortal’s Field, Immortals’ Gathering Terrace, and the Huanggang Mountain Waterfall.

The Huanggang Mountain Grand Canyon boasts what is acclaimed as the largest waterfall in East China. Within the riverbed, distinct geological wonders known as “jade belts,” each about 35 to 50 cm wide, are clearly visible. There are also deep pools ranging from 5 to 20 meters in depth, crystal-clear and emerald green. Wild plum forests are found throughout, while troops of wild monkeys freely play in the woods, and birdsong fills the air — making this nature reserve an ideal travel destination. Strolling along this picturesque landscape, visitors feel completely immersed in the scenery: looking up to admire the green mountains, reaching out to touch the foliage, listening to the birds and stream sounds, and dipping hands into the cool, clear waters. This pristine ecological environment offers visitors a refreshing and unforgettable experience.

At the mountaintop lies a flat meadow of about one square kilometer, devoid of any trees. The wild grass here grows over a foot thick, soft as a carpet. Standing atop this “Roof of East China” and gazing into the distance, the surrounding peaks appear like islands hidden in the misty sea of clouds, with white clouds drifting lightly between them. The vast, boundless landscape unfolds before your eyes. “A step to the summit, and no trace of smoke can be seen” — this is the perfect spot for a sweeping view from on high.

Huanggang Mountain is majestic and spectacular, with ever-changing views across the four seasons. Rolling sea of clouds creates a heavenly atmosphere, especially during late autumn and early winter when the mountains are blanketed with yellow flowers — making it the best time to climb Huanggang Mountain. The three characters “黄冈山” (Huanggang Mountain) were inscribed by the late master calligrapher Qian Juntao, rendered in powerful, vigorous strokes.
