Peach Blossom Cave Taoist Temple

Peach Blossom Cave is located on the sixth bend of the Wuyi Mountains. The area is extremely secluded, with cliffs forming a natural gateway. Winding paths lead inside, where a stone bridge spans a flowing stream. Beyond, the space suddenly opens up into a flat expanse, with the Sun and Moon Liberation Ponds arranged at the cave’s entrance. Surrounded by mountains on all sides and dotted with peach groves, the one or two dozen acres of fields resemble the “land of idyllic beauty” depicted by Tao Yuanming, hence the name. The Taoist temple was built during the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty (742–756), a time when the legends of immortals in the Wuyi Mountains attracted many scholars and hermits to settle here. The reconstructed Peach Blossom Cave Taoist Temple covers an area of over 6,000 square meters. Its main halls consist of the Three Pure Ones Hall, the Jade Emperor Hall, the Spirit Official Hall, and the Mountain Gate (central axis section), while the side halls include the Three Sovereigns Yuanjun Hall, the Zhenwu Hall, the Three Officials Hall, and the Scripture Depository. It houses facilities for Taoist practitioners to conduct religious activities and cultivate spiritual practice, as well as venues for training Taoist talent and promoting Taoist culture. In 1995, the Peach Blossom Taoist Temple and the Wuyi Mountains Scenic Area raised funds to carve the world’s largest Laozi Rock Sculpture.
