Ruins of Pingshan Academy

The ruins of Pingshan Academy are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The ruins of Pingshan Academy are located in Fufront Natural Village, Wuyi Village, Wufu Town, Wuyishan City, dating from the Song to the Qing dynasties.

The site stretches 110 meters from east to west and 105 meters from north to south, covering an area of 10,000 square meters. It consists of a former post road at the front, surrounding walls, and the foundations of internal building complexes, with structures dating from the Southern Song to the Qing dynasty. The ruins of Pingshan Academy are among the few historical sites related to Zhu Xi culture in China that have been confirmed through archaeological investigation, providing tangible material for the study of Zhu Xi’s cultural legacy.

Protected area: 10 meters eastward from the most protruding part of the eastern wall, 10 meters southward extending to Shamao Mountain, 10 meters westward beyond the western wall, and 10 meters northward beyond the northern post road.

In 2018, the ruins of Pingshan Academy were designated as a ninth-batch provincial-level cultural heritage site by the People's Government of Fujian Province.

Wuyi Village: Located at the center of Wufu Town, Wuyi Village serves as the town’s political, economic, cultural, and financial hub. It was the residence, teaching site, and place where the Song Dynasty Neo-Confucian master Zhu Xi wrote his works. Existing relics and sites related to Zhu Xi in the area include Ziyang Tower, the ruins of Pingshan Academy, Zhu Xi Lane, Wufu Community Granary, Five Sages Well, Liu Family Chastity Archway, and the Street Archway.
