Tomb of Zhu Song

The Tomb of Zhu Song is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province.

The Tomb of Zhu Song is located in Simen Natural Village, Siwei Village, Diwei Village, Shangmei Township, Wuyishan City, dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty.

Description: Originally built in the 14th year of the Shaoxing era of the Song Dynasty (1144), it was first situated on Xita Mountain in Wufu Li, then relocated in the 6th year of the Qiandao era (1170) to the foot of E'zi Peak at Baishui, and later moved to its current location. The tomb faces west and has a circular layout, covering a ground area of 800 square meters. The stone burial chamber features a domed ceiling constructed from pebbles, with the dome having a diameter of approximately 2.5 meters. In front of the tomb mound stands a memorial stele inscribed with “Tomb of the Illustrious Ancestor Zhu Xianjing, Erected by Zhu Ling.” In front of the stele is an altar, which includes a stone prayer mat, a stone incense burner, and a stone offering table. Zhu Song (1097–1143), styled Qiaonian and also known as Weizhai, was the father of Zhu Xi. He was from Wuyuan, Huizhou (present-day Wuyuan, Jiangxi), and became a Jinshi (imperial scholar) in the 1st year of the Chonghe era of the Song Dynasty. He held various official positions including Magistrate of Zhenghe County, Editorial Director, and Director of the Ministry of Personnel. Due to his opposition to the appeasement policies advocated by the powerful minister Qin Hui, he was demoted and appointed as Prefect of Raozhou, Jiangxi (though he never took up the post). He passed away in the 14th year of the Shaoxing era. Posthumously honored due to the achievements of his son Zhu Xi, he was given the posthumous title of Tongyi Daifu and posthumously awarded the title of Xianjing Gong.

Protected area: The tomb complex extends to the foot of the mountain to the east, and 10 meters outward to the south, west, and north.

In 2018, the Tomb of Zhu Song was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.
