Shize Building

Shize Building is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Shize Building is located in the northwest of Gaobei Village, Gaotou Township, to the east of Chengqi Building. Originally built in the 44th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1565), it was destroyed in a war in 1929 and rebuilt to its original form in 1931. It is a rectangular earthen building facing south, covering an area of approximately 5,100 square meters. The structure has four stories, is 40.8 meters wide with 11 bays, 41.2 meters deep with 12 bays, and has 38 bays per floor. The main walls are 1.6 meters thick, and there are no windows on the first and second floors.

The first and fourth floors feature interior corridors, while the second and third floors have two rooms on each side that extend beyond the corridor and are not interconnected. There are no halls above the second floor. The inner side of the building has load-bearing raw earth walls every other bay, with earthen brick partitions between every two bays also serving as load bearers. The central hall has been demolished, and on both sides are single-story wing rooms constructed with stone-wood or earth-wood structures. The rear hall serves as the ancestral hall, with a plaque hanging above inscribed with: "Light of the Nation and Family."

The building has four staircases, one main gate, and one well on each side of the inner courtyard.

Yongding – Gaobei Village: Take the “Jinfeng Line” bus from Yongding County Bus Station, route Yongding–Gaotou (Tulou), departing at 7:25, 8:20, 10:30, 11:40, 13:00, 14:20, 15:15, and 16:30. The bus passes through Lishi, Qiling, Daxi, and Hukeng.

The admission fee for the Gaobei Village Tulou Cluster is 50 RMB per person, including representative buildings such as Chengqi Building, Shize Building, and Wuyun Building.
