Five Clouds Tower

Five Clouds Tower is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Located at the easternmost end of the tulou cluster, it was built during the Longqing era of the Ming Dynasty (1567–1572). This rectangular earthen building faces south and covers an area of approximately 3,600 square meters, with no stone foundation. It has four stories, is 25.8 meters wide with nine bays, and 24.3 meters deep with eleven bays. The outer wall of the ground floor is 1.3 meters thick, and each floor has 40 bays. The entire building has one main gate, four staircases, and a low wall enclosing the courtyard outside the gate to form a compound, with the outer gate directly facing the building's entrance. It features an interior corridor layout, with gable-and-hip roofs at the front and rear, and hanging gable roofs on the sides (see photo 40 in 7.a-2).

The central axis of the building from south to north consists of the outer gate, the gate courtyard, the building entrance, the foyer, the inner courtyard, the central hall, another inner courtyard, and the rear hall. The central hall is square-shaped and single-story, with an inner courtyard in the middle. There is one door on the south side, one on the north side, and one side door each on the east and west sides. Each of the four doors leads to a brick-walled alleyway, dividing the interior into four small courtyards. There is a well on each the east and west sides inside the building.

Originally three stories high, the building was purchased in the 17th century (early Qing Dynasty) by Jiang Jicheng, the builder of Chengqi Tower, and expanded to four stories.
