Hakka Ancient Town Cultural Tourism Area

The Hakka Ancient Town Cultural Tourism Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Hakka Ancient Town project has a total investment of 3.2 billion yuan, covering an area of approximately 600 acres, including a 400-acre core ancient town area and a 200-acre supporting residential area. The total construction area is about 570,000 square meters, and it is planned to be completed in two phases over four years.

The Hakka Ancient Town is located on Yongding North Ring Road, at the core of the northern new town. It is just 800 meters from the Yongding North exit of the Hucheng Expressway.

The Hakka Ancient Town is situated at the heart of the southern “Ecological New City, Wellness Destination” tourism golden corridor being developed by Yongding District. This corridor integrates diverse tourism formats such as hot springs, performances, film and television, leisure, and vacation. Our Hakka Ancient Town is currently the largest and most comprehensive single tourism real estate project within the corridor, featuring the most complete range of business formats. It serves as the leading project, capable of meeting the varied needs of visitors to surrounding destinations.

The design concept of the Hakka Ancient Town is based on the distinctive culture of the Hakka people, using the architectural culture of tulou (earthen buildings) as a platform to showcase the region’s millennia-old humanistic and architectural heritage. It creates an ancient architectural complex primarily featuring traditional Hakka residential styles, while also incorporating refined elements from ancient buildings across eastern, western, southern, and northern China.

The 760-meter commercial core axis of the project is traversed east-west by the cultural landscape boulevard “Hakka Avenue.” Along Hakka Avenue, specialty commercial streets are set up, with riverside leisure commercial belts along both sides of the waterway. The avenue also features well-arranged landscape nodes that blend commercial and cultural vibes. The architectural design of the Hakka Ancient Town encompasses four major functional forms: residential, commercial, administrative, and ceremonial. Functionally, it satisfies the six essential elements of tourism: “eat, stay, travel, tour, shop, and entertain.”

These include:

“Eat” – There are large and medium-sized dining streets along the North Ring Road and the 24-meter-wide city-entry boulevard, gathering Hakka cuisine from Yongding, Longyan, surrounding areas such as Liancheng and Shanghang, and even the Fujian-Guangdong-Jiangxi region. Renowned domestic and international chain restaurants are also invited to set up shops here. Additionally, the ancient town features a charming riverside tea house and snack street, allowing visitors to stroll and dine leisurely while enjoying a variety of special snacks.

“Stay” – The project includes a distinctive five-star Hakka Grand Hotel, courtyard-style inns that reflect Hakka residential culture, cost-effective apartment hotels (including those designed in the round tulou style), as well as various types of courtyard-based guesthouses, meeting the accommodation needs of tourists at all levels.

“Travel” – Externally, the project is connected via the North Ring Road and the 24-meter-wide city-entry boulevard, ensuring fast access between the ancient town and downtown Yongding as well as the expressway exits.

Internally, the project is served by a backbone transportation network consisting of Hakka Avenue and three main roads: Shengyun–Jinfeng, Taiping–Fengtian—one horizontal and two vertical—facilitating connectivity both within and outside the ancient town, as well as among various scenic spots.

For parking, the core area of the ancient town provides over 1,000 parking spaces, fully meeting the needs of tourism and commerce.

“Tour” – There is a scenic and cultural tour: the ancient town uniquely employs a live water circulation system that continuously filters the water quality 24 hours a day. Water is first purified in the elevated Dragon Lake, then flows naturally along the two channels of “Xixi River,” connecting six lakeside parks to form a three-dimensional water system of one river, two channels, and six lakes. Coupled with culturally rich architectural landscapes along the water’s edge, uniquely designed bridges, and cultural landscape clusters, this creates a distinctive scenic and cultural touring route through the ancient town.

There is a folk experience tour: centered around the ancient stage in Wolong Square, various performances are regularly held, including Han opera, Hakka mountain songs, puppet shows, traditional folk arts, and minor folk performances.

During important Hakka folk festivals, large-scale events such as drum-beating competitions, lantern festivals, and traditional processions are organized. These activities are centered around the three node squares along Hakka Avenue and interwoven throughout the main commercial streets and key scenic spots of the ancient town, allowing visitors to closely experience the vibrant Hakka cultural atmosphere.

“Shop” – The ancient town features themed shopping streets along its main roads: from the entrance archway to Hakka Square is the Hakka Specialty Shopping Street, offering a full range of Hakka crafts, specialties, and clothing; from Hakka Square to Wolong Square is the Antique Calligraphy and Painting Street, specializing in exquisite antiques and folk paintings; from Wolong Square to Fengshan Square is the Myanmar Jade and Jewelry Street, featuring beautiful jade, rare stones, and unique jewelry.

These three themed shopping streets blend harmoniously with the cultural and tourism ambiance of the ancient town, complementing each other. Additionally, the ancient town houses a large 15,000-square-meter supermarket, catering to the shopping needs of both tourists and residents of the surrounding urban areas.

“Entertainment” – Within the ancient town, visitors can actively participate in various folk performances and interactive activities, immersing themselves in the lively and entertaining Hakka traditions. Surrounding the ancient town are also KTVs, clubs, bars, spas, and a star-rated cinema (located in the large commercial center), meeting the diverse entertainment needs of both tourists and Yongding residents.
