Former Site of the Soviet Government of Taiping District

The Former Site of the Soviet Government of Taiping District is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Former Site of the Soviet Government of Taiping District is located in Xibi Village, Gaobei Town, Yongding District, Longyan City, dating back to 1930.

Introduction: Also known as Shuangshou Hall, it was built in the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917), facing west and situated to the east. It is a square earthen building with a timber and earth structure, featuring a two-courtyard, three-section layout with side wings, measuring 25 meters in width and 28 meters in depth, covering a total area of 930 square meters. The central axis from west to east consists of the front hall, courtyard, main hall, another courtyard, and the main building. The main building has three stories, designed in a watchtower style, with a double-room layout and a hip-and-gable roof. A main gate is located on the north side, featuring a stone lintel and stone-engraved couplets, with exquisite stone carvings of flowers and figures on both sides. In November 1930, the Western Fujian Soviet Government moved to Hugang, and the various districts under the Yongding District Soviet Government were merged—the Ninth District (Kan City District), Tenth District (Peifeng District), Eleventh District, and Twelfth District (Tian Di District)—into the Taiping District. The “Soviet Government of Taiping District” and the “Taiping District Committee of the Chinese Communist Party” were established in Shuangshou Hall, reporting directly to the Western Fujian Soviet Government. The Gaobei area came under the direct jurisdiction of the Taiping District Soviet Government of the Western Fujian Soviet Government.

Xibi Village: Xibi Village has a population of 6,238, with 1,620 households and 46 villager groups. It currently has 162 Party members, organized into three Party branches, making it the largest administrative village in Gaobei Town. The forested area covers approximately 38,000 mu, with cultivated land spanning 3,600 mu. It is home to the Xibi Tianhou Temple, a national key cultural heritage site.

Xibi Village is located upstream of the Yongding River, on the western side of Gaobei Town, with the Yongding River flowing around the village for a length of 6 kilometers from one end to the other.
