Shangzhai Zedong Building

The Shangzhai Zedong Building is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

The Shangzhai Zedong Building is located in Wuhu Village, Fushi Town, Yongding District, Longyan City, dating back to 1951.

Introduction: Originally known as the Aotou Zhang Residence, it was first built in the 22nd year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1896). It faces northwest and is situated southeast, featuring an earth-and-timber structure. The main building is a three-story watchtower-style earthen building with gable-and-hip roof supported by gable walls. In early August 1929, Mao Zedong, accompanied by his wife He Zizhen and others, came here to guide land revolution activities and stayed in the main building, where the residing Zhang family provided care and ensured security. Later, this small earthen building became the headquarters for revolutionary struggles carried out by the Soviet and guerrilla forces. It was burned down by the Kuomintang in 1936. In 1951, it was rebuilt to its original size and style and named “Zedong Building.”

Protective boundary: The area extends 20 meters outward from all sides of the building.

In 2018, the Shangzhai Zedong Building was announced by the People's Government of Fujian Province as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units.

Wuhu Village: Wuhu Village borders Dong’an Village to the east, Huilei Town to the west, Huafeng Village to the north, and Chendong Township to the south. The village administers 20 villager groups, divided among 6 natural villages, of which 5 groups are classified as revolutionary base villages. There are currently 650 households with a population of 2,650. The total arable land area exceeds 2,300 mu, including over 1,700 mu of paddy fields. The forested area covers a total of 1,800 mu, including over 3,000 mu of state-owned ecological forest and more than 1,800 mu of bamboo forest.
