The former site of the Defense Battle of Hugang in Western Fujian during the Central Soviet Area (Yongping Bridge) is located in Hudong Village, Hugang Town, dating back to 1930.

The former site of the Defense Battle of Hugang in Western Fujian during the Central Soviet Area (Yongping Bridge), located at the entrance of Mukeng in Hudong Village, Hugang Town, was first built in the 61st year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1722) and expanded in the 3rd year of the Jiaqing reign. The bridge covers an area of 140 square meters, runs from north to south, and is a single-arch stone corridor bridge that spans the Yongding River, which flows from west to east. The bridge is 34.2 meters long, 4.2 meters wide, and the bridge deck is 13.2 meters above the water surface. It features a flush-gable roof with purlins resting on gable walls. Both sides of the bridge railing are made of rammed earth walls, standing 4.7 meters high. At the southern end of the bridge stands a shrine dedicated to the “Yongping Duke God.” Originally, the bridge served as the only route connecting Gaopi Town to Hugang Township. In December 1930, the CPC Western Fujian Special Committee and the Soviet Government of Western Fujian moved their base to Hugang, making Hugang the capital of the Western Fujian Soviet Area. To defend Hugang and safeguard the government of the Western Fujian Soviet, a sentry post was established on this bridge, guarded by Zhang Aiping’s Red Army company commander unit. Local residents also named the bridge the “Red Army Bridge.”

Construction control zone: Extend 15 meters outward from the boundary of the protected area.

Hudong Village: The total land area of Hudong Village is 20.6 square kilometers, with forested land covering 23,360 mu, arable land spanning 2,800 mu, and actual forested area at 22,500 mu, resulting in a forest coverage rate of 72%. The village comprises 29 villager groups, with a total of 976 households, a population of 3,600, and a labor force of 2,900. The terrain of Hudong Village is unique, with beautiful scenery and pleasant views. It is rich in mineral resources and known for producing flue-cured tobacco, among other products. The village is adjacent to Gaopi Town.
